The Dunkermotoren E90R is a spring-force power-off brake that holds a motor axis the instant supply voltage is removed, so vertical loads, positioning stages and gravity-loaded axes stay put through an emergency stop or power failure. Because the holding force comes from a spring rather than a permanent magnet, its 1Nm nominal torque (0.60–1.20Nm over the temperature range) stays predictable as the motor heats up or the duty cycle changes.

In combination with Dunkermotoren's brushless motors the E90R integrates into the motor's profile housing at IP65, pairing with BG66 and BG75 motors in that configuration. Where a standalone mount is preferred, it can also be fitted openly or under a cover, connecting via 300mm grey leads (UL style 1569 AWG22) to a 24Vdc supply.

The E90R is also available with manual unlocking and with manual release; on the release version a Ø3.6mm hole in the lever takes a Bowden cable, so an operator can free a jammed axis from the front or the rear without power. Its 1Nm holding and mid-range Ø59mm body suit general-duty servo and stepper axes where a vertical load, clamp or positioning stage must not drift the moment power is lost, typical in motion control, factory automation and machine build.

It's part of Dunkermotoren's full power-off brake series, which spans the permanent-magnet E22R and E100R and the spring-force E38R, E90R, E310R and E600R for larger axes, plus the power-on E46A to E605A range for applications requiring a normally-braked default state.

The standard E90R is rated at 1Nm nominal torque with a 0.60–1.20Nm range over temperature. The E90R schwach is the reduced-torque build of the same brake at 0.5Nm nominal and 0.25–0.7Nm. Electrically they are identical — 24Vdc, 0.31A, 7.5W, 0.45kg — but the standard E90R engages in 30ms against 100ms for the schwach.
A power-off brake holds the load when supply voltage is removed and releases when it is applied, so the axis is held automatically on power loss, emergency stop or shutdown. Specify one wherever a vertical axis, gravity load or positioning stage must not drift while the drive is de-energised — it is a holding brake, not a service brake for decelerating a moving load.
In an IP65 extruded-body installation the E90R is listed with BG66 and BG75 motors, giving an overall length of 60mm with the BG66 and 69mm with the BG75. The E90R measures 59mm in diameter by 42.3mm long and weighs 0.45kg. It is supplied with 300mm grey leads in UL style 1569 AWG22 — the heaviest conductor cross-section in the power-off series.
The brake itself is IP20 as supplied. Brakes can be mounted to the motor openly or with covers in protection class up to IP65, and in combination with brushless motors they can be integrated into the motor profile housing at IP65 — so the achievable rating depends on the mounting arrangement rather than on the brake alone.
Dunkermotoren states that the nominal torque, torque range, nominal current and nominal input power figures apply once the brake has run in — the friction surfaces need a period of operation to reach their rated performance. The torque range figures additionally apply over the temperature range, which is why they are given as a band rather than a single value.
