The Dunkermotoren E50A is a 24 Vdc power-on brake rated at 0.4 Nm nominal torque, with a torque range of 0.25–0.60 Nm over the temperature range. A power-on brake applies torque when it is energised and releases when supply is removed. This is the opposite of the power-off brakes in the Dunkermotoren range. It is specified where braking is a commanded function rather than a fail-safe one, since the axis is free when the machine is unpowered.

The E50A draws 0.22 A at 6 W nominal input power, engaging in 5 ms and releasing in 15 ms: the quickest engagement in the power-on series. It measures 39 mm in diameter by 35 mm long, weighs 0.12 kg and runs with low noise. Dunkermotoren rates it IP 30/65, the only brake in the range carrying two protection figures. Connection is by 400 mm leads of 0.25 mm² cross-section, red/green for GND and blue/green for Vdc.

Power-on brakes are supplied on request. All rated values apply in the run-in condition.

FAQs
The E50A applies 0.4Nm nominal torque with a 0.25–0.60Nm range over temperature on a 24Vdc supply. The Dunkermotoren power-on series runs E46A at 0.3Nm, E50A at 0.4Nm, E105A at 1.7Nm, E300A at 2.5Nm and E605A at 4.5Nm.
A power-on brake applies torque when it is energised and releases when supply is removed. A power-off brake does the reverse: it holds when de-energised, so the axis is caught automatically on power loss or emergency stop. Choose a power-on brake such as the E50A, E105A or E300A where braking is a commanded step in the cycle; choose a power-off brake from the E22R to E600R range where the load must not drift while the machine is unpowered. A power-on brake is not a fail-safe holding brake and should not be specified as one.
The E50A engages in 5ms and releases in 15ms. That 5ms activation is the quickest in the power-on series, against 8ms for the E46A, 17ms for the E300A, 20ms for the E105A and 30ms for the E605A, which makes it the pick where braking has to be applied tightly within a machine cycle.
The E50A is the only brake in the Dunkermotoren range listed with two protection figures, IP30/65. The catalogue does not state the conditions attaching to each. Brakes can be mounted to the motor openly or with covers in protection class up to IP65, and in combination with brushless motors they can be integrated into the motor profile housing at IP65. Confirm the rating for your specific mounting arrangement with sales@powerbox.com.au before specifying.
The E50A runs on 24Vdc drawing 0.22A at 6W nominal input power in the run-in condition: the lowest current draw of the power-on series.
The E50A measures 39mm in diameter by 35mm long and weighs 0.12kg. It is supplied with 400mm leads of 0.25mm² cross-section: red/green for GND and blue/green for Vdc, the only colour coding of its kind in the range, so check the marking against the drawing before wiring.
Dunkermotoren supplies the full power-on series (E46A, E50A, E105A, E300A and E605A) on request rather than as standard catalogue items, so lead times differ from the power-off range. Contact sales@powerbox.com.au for current availability before designing one in.
Selection depends on the torque required at the axis, whether the brake must hold on power loss or only when commanded, the motor series it mounts to, and whether an IP65 profile-housing installation is needed. Send your motor model and duty details to sales@powerbox.com.au and Powerbox will confirm the right brake and mounting arrangement.
