Dunkermotoren E22R Power-Off Brake

The Dunkermotoren E22R is a 24Vdc power-off brake rated at 0.1Nm nominal torque, with a torque range of 0.1–0.14Nm over the temperature range. The Dunkermotoren E22R is a 24Vdc power-off brake rated at 0.1Nm nominal torque, with a torque range of 0.1–0.14Nm over the temperature range. It works on the permanent-magnet principle, so the correct supply polarity must be observed at installation.

At 22mm diameter and 30mm long, the E22R is the most compact brake in the Dunkermotoren range. It draws 2.5W nominal input power and runs with low noise, which suits it to space-constrained equipment where a holding brake has to sit inside the motor envelope. Protection class is IP20 as supplied; brakes can be mounted to the motor openly or with covers in protection class up to IP65, and in combination with brushless motors they can be integrated into the motor profile housing at IP65.

Connection is by 400mm leads in UL style 10556 AWG26, blue for GND, red for Vdc. All rated values apply in the run-in condition.

Dunkermotoren E22R permanent-magnet power-off brake with metallic housing, central bore, mounting pins and lead wires
Features
  • Permanent-magnet power-off design holds the load when the 24Vdc supply is removed — the axis stays put on power loss with no holding current
  • The most compact brake in the Dunkermotoren range — Ø22mm and 30mm long — for the tightest motor stacks where a larger brake won't fit
  • 0.1Nm nominal holding (0.1–0.14Nm over temperature) — the lightest in the range, sized for small or low-inertia axes
  • Draws just 2.5W — the lowest power of any brake in the range, easing the load on the control supply
  • Low-noise operation for quiet installations where a louder brake would be noticed
  • IP20 as supplied, or up to IP65 with covers or inside a brushless motor's profile housing — one brake for open or sealed installs
  • Polarity-coded 400mm flying leads (blue GND, red Vdc), UL style 10556 AWG 26 — wire straight in with polarity clear at a glance

FAQs
The E22R is rated at 0.1Nm nominal torque with a torque range of 0.1–0.14Nm over temperature, making it the smallest brake in the Dunkermotoren power-off series. The range then steps up through the E38R at 0.2Nm, E90R schwach at 0.5Nm, E90R at 1Nm, E100R at 1.5Nm, E310R at 3.3Nm and E600R at 7Nm — all on a 24Vdc supply.
A power-off brake holds the load when supply voltage is removed and releases when it is applied, so the axis is held automatically on power loss, emergency stop or shutdown. Specify one wherever a vertical axis, gravity load or positioning stage must not drift while the drive is de-energised — it is a holding brake, not a service brake for decelerating a moving load.
The E22R runs on 24Vdc and draws 2.5W nominal input power in the run-in condition — the lowest consumption of any brake in the power-off series, which matters where several brakes share one 24Vdc control supply.
The E22R is a permanent-magnet design, as is the E100R, so the correct polarity must be observed when connecting the blue GND and red Vdc leads. The spring-force brakes in the series — E38R, E90R, E310R and E600R — are not polarity-sensitive. Connecting a permanent-magnet brake the wrong way round will prevent it releasing correctly.
The E22R measures 22mm in diameter by 30mm long and is supplied with 400mm leads in UL style 10556 AWG 26 — blue for GND and red for Vdc. It is the most compact brake in the series, which is usually the reason it is specified over the higher-torque models.
The brake itself is IP20 as supplied. Brakes can be mounted to the motor openly or with covers in protection class up to IP65, and in combination with brushless motors they can be integrated into the motor profile housing at IP65 — so the achievable rating depends on the mounting arrangement rather than on the brake alone.
Selection depends on the holding torque required at the axis, the motor series the brake mounts to, and whether an IP65 profile-housing installation is needed. Send your motor model and load details to sales@powerbox.com.au and Powerbox will confirm the right brake and mounting arrangement.
