The Dunkermotoren E605A is a 24 Vdc power-on brake rated at 4.5 Nm nominal torque, with a torque range of 4.00–8.50 Nm over the temperature range: the highest-torque brake in the power-on series and the widest torque band in the whole brake range. A power-on brake applies torque when it is energised and releases when supply is removed, the opposite of the power-off brakes in the Dunkermotoren range. It is specified where braking is a commanded function rather than a fail-safe one, since the axis is free when the machine is unpowered.

The E605A draws 0.54 A at 13 W nominal input power, engaging in 30 ms and releasing in 11 ms. It measures 80 mm in diameter by 45 mm long, weighs 0.57 kg and runs with low noise. Uniquely among the brakes on this page it is rated IP65 as supplied rather than IP 20, so it does not depend on covers or a motor profile housing to reach a sealed rating. In an IP 65 extruded-body installation it is listed with the BG75 motor, giving an overall length of 85 mm. Supplied with 400 mm leads.

The E605 A applies 4.5 Nm nominal torque with a 4.00–8.50 Nm range over temperature on a 24 Vdc supply. It is the highest-torque brake in the power-on series: E46 A at 0.3 Nm, E50 A at 0.4 Nm, E105 A at 1.7 Nm, E300 A at 2.5 Nm and E605 A at 4.5 Nm. It also carries the widest torque band of any brake in the Dunkermotoren range.
A power-on brake applies torque when it is energised and releases when supply is removed. A power-off brake does the reverse: it holds when de-energised, so the axis is caught automatically on power loss or emergency stop. Choose a power-on brake where braking is a commanded step in the cycle; choose a power-off brake from the E22R to E600R range where the load must not drift while the machine is unpowered. A power-on brake is not a fail-safe holding brake and should not be specified as one.
The E605 A is the only brake in the range that Dunkermotoren rates IP 65 as supplied. Every other model is IP 20 out of the box, with the exception of the E50 A at IP 30/65. Brakes can be mounted to the motor openly or with covers in protection class up to IP 65, and in combination with brushless motors they can be integrated into the motor profile housing at IP 65. The practical difference is that the E605 A reaches a sealed rating without depending on the mounting arrangement, which simplifies specification where the brake sits in a washdown or dust-laden environment.
