Smart Fuse Protection for Security Cabling: Inside the Jack Fuse Power Port™ Range

13/06/25 James Rutty

When it comes to powering access control, alarms, and distributed security hardware, power distribution must be clean, labelled, protected, and compliant. The Jack Fuse Power Port™ range of Power Distribution Modules (PDMs) has been designed by installers, for installers, addressing the real-world demands of Australian security contractors and integrators.

The range includes both glass fuse models for defined fault protection and PTC resettable fuse models that minimise service calls and downtime. Selected models also integrate a fire trip relay input, allowing controlled shutdown of powered door hardware in accordance with fire system activation requirements—supporting compliance with the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

Importantly, Jack Fuse products provide a simple path to meeting AS/CA S009:2020, Australia’s customer cabling “Wiring Rules”, which require that extra-low voltage cabling be protected from overcurrent conditions using fuses or current-limiting devices. The Power Port range offers a pre-engineered, professional solution to ensure installations remain standards-compliant and field-serviceable.

These modules are the perfect companion to Powerbox’s DC-UPS systems, forming a complete and compliant low-voltage power solution tailored for electronic security installations.
