Background
A Perth-based ISP operates a high-performance wireless and fibre internet network across Perth, delivering low-latency connectivity to residential, business, and enterprise customers. Network uptime is critical, particularly during planned outages, weather events, and periods of high demand. Many network sites were originally equipped with traditional AC UPS systems, which were prone to overheating and had limited monitoring capabilities.

Challenge
The AC UPS units at multiple sites were experiencing regular failures due to Perth’s high summer temperatures. The lack of built-in redundancy and limited remote visibility meant faults could not be proactively identified, often resulting in unplanned downtime. In many cases, outages required the deployment of portable backup generators, which increased operational costs and response times. The ISP sought a DC-based backup solution that would:
- Operate reliably in high ambient temperatures.
- Reduce points of failure by eliminating AC conversion stages.
- Provide longer site autonomy
- Provide full remote monitoring of both power system and battery health.

Solution
Powerbox supplied and integrated DC power systems paired with Polarium lithium-ion batteries in 100Ah and 150Ah capacities. These were deployed to replace the failing AC UPS units, providing direct 48Vdc backup to site equipment without unnecessary AC/DC conversion losses.

- Hot-swappable, modular DC rectifiers for improved serviceability and built-in N+1 redundancy.
