The Dunkermotoren RE56 and RE56TI are high-resolution incremental encoders that deliver quadrature position and speed feedback for closed-loop motion control. With up to 2,000 pulses per channel and 8,000 counts per revolution, they give control systems the resolution needed to hold precise shaft positions, detect direction of rotation, and maintain smooth velocity at low speeds — tasks where lower-resolution encoders fall short.

Both encoders mount directly to Dunkermotoren brushless DC and geared motors, sharing the motor housing without additional brackets or couplings. The RE56TI variant adds complementary differential outputs (/A, /B, /I) for noise-immune signal transmission — the recommended choice for cable runs beyond 2.5 m between encoder and controller, or installations in electrically noisy environments.

Typical applications include robotics and collaborative automation, conveyor and material handling systems, pump and valve control, and precision positioning in industrial machinery. The standard RE56 is rated to −40°C to +100°C, making it suitable for cold-store and process environments without a specialist build.

The RE 56 series is designed for use with the Dunkermotoren GR42, GR53, GR 63, and GR 80 geared motor series and the BG62 dCore, BG65 dCore, and BG75 dCore brushless EC motors.

Features
  • Up to 2,000 ppr (8,000 counts per revolution) resolves finer shaft movement, supporting tighter positioning and smoother running at low speed
  • Index pulse gives a once-per-revolution zero reference, so the axis re-establishes a repeatable datum without an external home switch
  • TI line-driver version sends complementary signals (/A, /B, /I) that stay readable through electrical noise on runs beyond 2.5 m
  • Contact-free sensing leaves no brushes or wear surfaces to service on high-cycle axes
  • Standard RE 56 rated −40°C to +100°C, so cold stores and hot process areas are covered without a special build
  • Two resolution options in one part series let you standardise across axes with different precision requirements

FAQs
Both give the same 1,000/2,000 ppr (4,000/8,000 cpr) A/B/I feedback at 5Vdc. The RE56TI adds complementary differential outputs (/A, /B, /I) for noise-immune signal transmission, and is the recommended choice for cable runs beyond 2.5m between encoder and controller or in electrically noisy installations. Choose the standard RE56 for shorter runs in a cleaner electrical environment.
The RE56 and RE56TI both offer selectable resolution of 1,000 or 2,000 pulses per channel and revolution (ppr), giving 4,000 or 8,000 counts per revolution (cpr) via an A/B/I interface. This lets one part series cover axes with different precision requirements without changing encoder model.
The standard RE56 is rated −40°C to +100°C, suiting cold-store and high-temperature process environments without a specialist build. The RE56TI is rated 0°C to +70°C. This is an important distinction when specifying for temperature extremes — confirm the correct variant for your ambient conditions before ordering.
The RE56 series is designed for the GR42, GR53, GR63 and GR80 geared motor series, and the BG62 dCore, BG65 dCore and BG75 dCore brushless EC motor series. The encoder mounts directly to the motor housing without additional brackets or couplings.
The I channel provides a once-per-revolution reference pulse. This lets the control system establish a repeatable zero position on start-up or after a fault, without needing a separate external home switch — useful wherever the axis must return to a known reference point reliably.
The RE56 and RE56TI both run from a 5Vdc supply and carry an IP30 protection class as standard. Contact-free magnetic sensing means there are no brushes or wear surfaces to service over the life of the encoder.
Dunkermotoren's documented redundant-safe configuration pairs a BG motor's integrated MR encoder with the RE30-2-1024 encoder, not the RE56. For redundant or safety-related positioning, contact sales@powerbox.com.au to confirm the correct encoder combination for your application.
Typical applications include robotics and collaborative automation, conveyor and material handling systems, pump and valve control, and precision positioning in industrial machinery.
