Dunkermotoren MG 2 Magnetic Pulse Generator

The Dunkermotoren MG 2 is a magnetic pulse generator that works contact-free and wear-free using Hall sensors and a magnetic ring, providing two square-wave signals with 90° phase shift for speed and direction sensing. Resolution depends on motor pairing: 2 ppr (8 cpr) on the G 30 and hooded GR 42 builds, or 12 ppr (48 cpr) on the open GR 42 bui...

The Dunkermotoren MG 2 is a magnetic pulse generator that works contact-free and wear-free using Hall sensors and a magnetic ring, providing two square-wave signals with 90° phase shift for speed and direction sensing. Resolution depends on motor pairing: 2 ppr (8 cpr) on the G 30 and hooded GR 42 builds, or 12 ppr (48 cpr) on the open GR 42 build. The MG 2 is compatible with the GR 30, GR 30S and GR 42 motor series.

Output is open collector on the G 30 and hooded GR 42 builds, and open collector with pull-up on the GR 42. The supply range is 3.9–24 Vdc. Protective hoods in IP 54 or higher are available on request.

Typical applications include conveyor and material handling systems, general-purpose motion control, and basic speed and direction feedback wherever a full incremental encoder is not required.

The MG 2 pairs with the Dunkermotoren GR 30 and GR 42 geared motor series it is designed to mount to, adding contact-free speed and direction feedback without changing the motor’s footprint.

Dunkermotoren MG 2 magnetic pulse generator ring encoder with lead-out wires for G 30 DC motors.
Features
  • Hall-sensor and magnetic-ring sensing runs contact-free, so there is nothing to wear out or re-shim over the life of the drive
  • Two square-wave channels 90° apart give direction as well as speed, so the controller can tell forward from reverse
  • Wide 3.9–24 Vdc supply range means it drops into 5 V, 12 V and 24 V control systems without a level-shifting stage
  • Open-collector output interfaces directly with standard PLC and controller inputs, with pull-up fitted on GR 42 builds
  • Protective hoods to IP 54 or higher are available on request, so the same generator can move into dustier installations
  • One generator covers two motor pairings — the resolution is set by which build you specify, so there's no separate part number to source for each

FAQs
Resolution depends on motor pairing: 2 ppr (8 cpr) on the G 30 and hooded GR 42 builds, or 12 ppr (48 cpr) on the open GR 42 build. Confirm your motor pairing before ordering, as the two configurations are not interchangeable.
The G 30 and hooded GR 42 builds use an open collector output at 2 ppr (8 cpr). The open GR 42 build adds a pull-up resistor and steps up to 12 ppr (48 cpr). All three share the same Hall-sensor, contact-free sensing method.
The MG 2 operates from 3.9 Vdc to 24 Vdc, letting it run directly from common 5V, 12V or 24V control rails without a dedicated supply or level-shifting stage.
The MG 2 is compatible with the GR 30, GR 30S and GR 42 geared motor series, mounting directly to the motor without changing its footprint.
The MG 2 is IP 30 as supplied. Protective hoods rated IP 54 or higher are available on request for dustier or harsher installations.
No. The MG 2 senses position using Hall sensors and a magnetic ring, so operation is contact-free with no brushes or wear surfaces to service over the life of the encoder.
Typical applications include conveyor and material handling systems, general-purpose motion control, and basic speed and direction feedback wherever a full incremental encoder is not required.
Contact sales@powerbox.com.au with your motor series (G 30, GR 30S or GR 42) and hood requirement to confirm the correct MG 2 resolution and output configuration.
