Product Release: Powerbox PBB2S MKII Series DC-UPS

13/06/25 Powerbox Australia

Now updated and certified for both ITE and General Purpose applications under updated Australian Standards

Powerbox Australia is pleased to announce the launch of the PBB2S MKII Series DC-UPS Battery Charger, the next-generation evolution of our widely deployed DC power solution for electronic security and access control systems. Designed as a form-fit-function replacement for the original PBB2S Series, the MKII offers full backward compatibility with existing installations, while delivering renewed safety certification and broader compliance to the latest relevant Australian standards.

Certified for Broader Use: General Purpose + IT Standards

The PBB2S MKII Series is now certified to both Information Technology (IT) and General Purpose power supply safety categories, enabling its use across a wider range of commercial and industrial applications.

Key compliance standards include:

AS/NZS 61558.2.16 – Safety standard for general purpose power supply units
AS/NZS 62368.1 – Safety of audio/video, ICT, and communication equipment

It is also fully registered on the EESS (Electrical Equipment Safety System) under Registration Number E2025004894, ensuring compliance in all regulated national jurisdictions including QLD, VIC, SA, WA, and NT.

This renewed certification makes the PBB2S MKII Series suitable not only for electronic security applications but also for automation, communications, and infrastructure projects that require documented adherence to general power supply standards.

Backward-Compatible Design for Easy Field Replacement

The PBB2S MKII has been developed as a direct, drop-in replacement for the original PBB2S Series, preserving the same:
  • Electrical performance and output ratings
  • Mechanical footprint and mounting points
  • Terminal block positions and wiring layout
This allows straightforward installation into both new and existing systems with no changes to enclosures, cabling, or hardware layout, making it ideal for both maintenance work and asset upgrade programs.

Built for critical backup power in Security and Industrial Systems

Powerbox PBB3S-SERIES AC/DC Power Supply

The PBB2S MKII continues Powerbox’s commitment to reliable, high-uptime DC-UPS solutions for 12V and 24V battery-backed systems.

Key features include:

  • Dedicated, current-limited outputs for load and battery charging
  • Latching shutdown protection for overcurrent, short-circuit, and overvoltage conditions
  • Self-resetting battery fuse and overtemperature protection
  • Dry contact relays and Visual LED indicators for:
    - Mains/DC OK
    - Battery OK
    - Battery Fuse Fail
  • Natural convection cooling (fanless design)
The PBB2S MKII is purpose-built to deliver uninterrupted DC power and battery charging for systems requiring high availability. Applications include:
With dependable transition to battery backup during mains failure, the PBB2S MKII Series ensures continued operation of critical loads in security and infrastructure environments.

Available Now

The PBB2S MKII Series is now available from Powerbox and our national authorised distributor network. It offers a long-term supported path for existing customers using the original PBB2S Series, while extending the product’s compliance and application flexibility under the latest regulatory framework.
