When a battery sits idle for 24 hours, storage mode lowers the float voltage to limit gassing and plate corrosion, then raises it to absorption level once a week to prevent stratification and sulphation. The charger also recovers batteries discharged to zero volts, and reconnects to fully discharged Li-ion batteries with an internal disconnect function.
The series covers 12V models at 15A, 20A and 30A and 24V models at 8A, 12A and 16A. Three-output versions (all three 12V ratings, plus the 24V 16A) charge more than one battery bank from a single charger. Every Victron Blue Smart IP22 Charger model is available for 230Vac or 120Vac input, and 230Vac models are available with an AS/NZS 3112 plug for Australian and New Zealand outlets.
Typical applications for the Victron Blue Smart IP22 Charger include vehicle batteries, workshop charging and standby battery banks that stand idle for long periods. The series meets ECE R10-5 for automotive EMC, can also run as a DC power supply, and its NIGHT and LOW modes cap output at 50% of rated current and run silently for charging in occupied spaces.
On a VE.Smart Network, a Smart Battery Sense, BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor or SmartShunt can send battery voltage and temperature to the charger for compensated charging. The BMV-712 and SmartShunt also share battery current, so the charger can switch from absorption to float at a set tail current.
Up to ten chargers, including models with different current ratings, can be synchronised to charge one battery as a single larger charger. This adds capacity when needed and keeps charging going if one unit stops. VE.Smart networking is enabled on IP22 chargers with serial number HQ2024xxxxx and later.

- NIGHT and LOW Setting: Limits output current to a maximum of 50% of nominal output and runs silently. NIGHT mode ends automatically after 8 hours; LOW mode is ended manually.
- High Efficiency: Up to 94% efficiency generates up to four times less heat than the industry standard, and power consumption drops to 0.5W once the battery is fully charged.
- Protected Against Overheating: Output current reduces as temperature rises up to 50°C, so the charger keeps running rather than failing.
- Eleven-LED Status Indication: LEDs show the active charge stage, from test through to storage and ready, and the mode selected with the MODE button.
- Forty-Cycle History Log: The history screen shows usage data over the charger’s lifetime and detailed statistics for the last 40 charge cycles.
- Can Be Used as a Power Supply: Operates as a DC power supply as well as a battery charger.
- Voltage, Temperature and Current Sensing: Pair with a Smart Battery Sense, BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor or SmartShunt over the VE.Smart Network for compensated charging.
- Synchronised Parallel Charging: Up to ten chargers can be networked via VE.Smart to act as one larger charger, with models of different current ratings combinable.
