1a) If more PV power is connected, the controller will limit input power to the stated maximum.
1b) The PV voltage must exceed Vbat + 5V for the controller to start. Thereafter the minimum PV voltage is Vbat + 1V.
2) A PV array with a higher short circuit current may damage the controller in case of reverse polarity connection of the PV array.

FAQs
All models support a maximum PV open circuit voltage of 250V and 12/24/48Vdc battery systems (36Vdc via software). The model suffix indicates maximum charge current: 60A, 70A, 85A, or 100A. At 48Vdc, nominal PV power ranges from approximately 4000W (250/70) up to 5800W (250/100). Select based on the size of your PV array and your required charge rate at the battery voltage you are operating.
All models accept a maximum PV open circuit voltage of 250V (245V start-up and operating maximum) and achieve up to 99% peak conversion efficiency. Battery voltage is auto-selected across 12V, 24V, and 48V (36V via software tool). Temperature compensation is –16mV/°C (12V), –32mV/°C (24V), or –64mV/°C (48V). The MPPT 250/100 supports nominal PV arrays of 1450W (12V), 2900W (24V), or 5800W (48V).
The most significant distinction is the maximum PV open circuit voltage: 250V versus 150V, allowing longer or higher-voltage panel strings without reconfiguration. The 250 VE.Can series also adds the VE.Can bus in addition to VE.Direct and Bluetooth, enabling synchronised parallel operation of up to 25 units via CAN network — essential for larger commercial or industrial systems requiring very high aggregate charge current.
Up to 25 MPPT 250 VE.Can units can be connected via the CAN bus and synchronised in a parallel configuration, enabling multi-controller systems that aggregate charge current across a shared battery bus without needing a centralised master controller. This is particularly suited to large off-grid sites, telecom installations, and remote industrial power systems where a single charge controller cannot meet peak charge current requirements. Up to 10 units can also be synchronised via Bluetooth.
The MPPT 250 VE.Can series includes advanced maximum power point detection algorithms that continuously scan for and track the true global power peak of a PV array, rather than locking onto a local maximum — a common failure mode in partially shaded installations. In Australian conditions where shifting cloud cover, dust accumulation, or nearby structures can cause frequent partial shading events, this improves daily yield compared to single-peak trackers.
The series meets EN/IEC 62109-1, UL 1741, and CSA C22.2 for safety, and includes protection against battery reverse polarity (fused), PV reverse polarity, output short circuit, and over-temperature. The enclosure is rated IP43 for electronics and IP22 at the connection area. The 250/60 and 250/70 weigh 3kg; the 250/85 and 250/100 weigh 4.5kg. A programmable DPST relay and remote on/off connector are standard. Operating range is –30°C to +60°C with full rated output to 40°C.
Each unit includes built-in Bluetooth Smart for VictronConnect app monitoring and configuration, a VE.Direct port for wired connection to GX devices, and a VE.Can port for CAN bus network integration. The optional pluggable LCD display can be added for on-unit monitoring. All three interfaces enable adjustment of charge voltages, charge algorithm selection, relay programming, and remote on/off control.
